dc.description.abstract | This image of launch complex 14 at the Cape Canaveral Missile Text Annex in Florida was taken on October 12, 1961. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers initiated construction of this facility on January 1956. The total cost of construction was $4,308,000.00 and would accomdate the Atlas A, B, D, Able, Agena A and D, and the Atlas Mercury rocket systems for the Mercury, Gemini Target Vehicle and Midas programs. On 21 February, 25 April and 13 September 1961 there were three successful unmanned Mercury Atlas launches from this launch pad. And on 29 November 1961 Mercury Atlas launched Chimpanzee "Enos" from this location. This pad was deactivated in February 1967 and in 1984 was declared a National Historic Landmark. | en |
