Abstract
This report is the first of two reports on the project
"Determination of the Transient Response Characteristics of High
Efficiency Commercial Air Conditioners" funded by Houston Lighting and
Power Company. The purpose of this report is to present the results from
an investigation of the possible relationship between residential central
air conditioner efficiency and dehumidification performance. The method
used was that of a survey of air conditioners currently manufactured and
on the market as of late 1986. Chapter 2 outlines the basic terminology
used in evaluating the dehumidification performance of central air
conditioners. Chapter 3 provides background to the survey data. Chapter
4 presents results from the survey. Conclusions and recommendations are
presented in Chapter 5.
