Abstract

Chilled water thermal storage systems can reduce the electrical demand charge during the onpeak months. However, operational problems such as the inability to fully charge the system or premature discharge of the stored cooling capacity can be costly, which can result in turning on chillers during on-peak hours in order to provide cooling to the buildings. In this paper the optimization of a thermal storage system operation through Continuous CommissioningSM is presented. Detailed building and chilled water loop commissioning activities are discussed.
