dc.description.abstract | Growth and nutritive quality of Coastal bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.) were evaluated under the influence of irrigation (irrigated and unirrigated), harvest frequency based on age (2, 4 and 8-week intervals) and on amount of growth (harvested when 12, 24 and 36 cm high), and rates of N application (20, 50 and 100 kg/ha/mo). Nutritive quality was determined on the basis of in vitro digestibility, amount of cell wall constituents and CP content. Growth rate was determined at weekly intervals for a single clipping cycle on the irrigated plots harvested on the basis of chorological age. The estimated apparent IVDOM was not significantly affected by irrigation, although there was indication that the effect of N fertilization in increasing IVDOM was reduced under limited moisture supply. Average CP content increased significantly from 12.17% to 13.30% with supplemental irrigation. Except for a slight decrease in lignin content, none of the cell wall constituents was affected appreciably by supplemental irrigation. ... | en |
