Abstract
(1) In this study the O Sub(2) uptake rate constant for the Houston Ship Channel waters was found to vary from 0.027 to 0.14 day Super(-1) with an average value of 0.092 day Super(-1) by the Marais method. (2) The correlations between results of k and L values obtained by the Warburg method and the Marais method were poor. (3) The Marais method is more suitable than the Warburg method for the determination of k values in the low oxygen uptake rate water, such as in the case of the Houston Ship Channel waters
