Abstract

The research for the thesis was performed by Steven Lee Lass in pursuit of a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. The objective of this research was to develop an approach system for an aircraft using fuzzy control. The approach system follows a flight plan input by the pilot and simultaneous maintains the aircraft in a specified safe operating region of its performance envelope. The controller, implemented as software, drives a longitudinal simulation of a Boeing-737-100. The controller and supporting programs are written in the object-oriented language, Eiffel.
