Abstract

A benefit claimed for vane compressors is they do not have vibrations problems that are experienced by other positive displacement machines. This case study demonstrates high vibration and fatigue failures on a sliding vane compressor package resulting from shaking forces generated by pressure pulsations as well as mechanical resonance. Results from field testing and design work to resolve the vibration problems are presented. Recommendations for design practices to minimize the risk of pulsation and vibration problems are given.
