Abstract

Purpose [line break] The purpose of this study was to obtain and analyze data from high school principals and vocational agriculture teachers in Texas to the end that programs of education for teachers of vocational agriculture and administrators may be developed to facilitate harmonious professional relationships between teachers and principals. The following specific objectives were developed: 1. To determine the conceptual variations concerning the role of the teacher of vocational agriculture as perceived by teachers and principals. 2. To determine the relationship between selected background variables and the opinions of teachers and principals. 3. To develop recommendations for use in pre-service and in-service educational programs for teachers of vocational agriculture and high school principals. [line break] Procedure [line break] Data were obtained from questionnaires composed of 43 statements mailed to vocational agriculture teachers and high school principals in Texas during the academic year 1971-72. The eight areas investigated were: purposes of the program, policies of the program, adult education, FFA activities, community relationships, school responsibilities, instructional program in vocational agriculture, and professional responsibilities. Analysis of variance was used to determine differences between the responses of the two groups. The product-moment correlation was used to determine the relationship between background variables and the opinions of teachers and principals. ...
