Abstract

The Ronald McDonald House has distinguished itself as a highly respected organization in American society. In an effort to better understand how organizations persuade, this thesis examines many public documents from the House in an effort to understand, first at a practical and then at a theoretical level, how the House uses language to establish and maintain its credibility. Close textual analysis, as well as other rhetorical-critical approaches are used to examine several groups of documents, each intended for a different audience. The observations are synthesized into a theoretical description of the House.
