Water resources development in Texas is primarily of two types, channelization and surface impoundments. Effects of these types of projects are discussed in terms of environmental effects in Texas. With this background, numerous environmental impact statements filed with the President's Council On Environmental Quality were obtained and reviewed. Analysis of these statements was conducted by physiographic regions as delineated by a band 7, black and white satellite (ERTS-1) mosaic of the state. Specific sites within each region were chosen as typical or representative. Transects of each site were constructed and secondary environmental data were accumulated and related to low altitude photography and enlarged MSS ERTS-1 false color composites. Each diagrammatic transect, with accompanying data and photographs, provides significant information for input of environmental amenities into preliminary water development studies. In addition, the display and use of the transects provide identification of data gaps, a visual display of available information, and a basis for additional data as necessitated by increased planning detail. Although application of the transects and accompanying data is proposed for preliminary studies, additional applications are discussed.en
