dc.description.abstractAdsorption of P from solution by the limed and unlimed soil and sand samples occurred rapidly during the first minute and then decreased. A gradual sorption of P continued for periods greater than 72 hours. Increasing the temperature from 0-30(DEGREES)C increased the adsorption of P from solution. The Langmuir adsorption b constant for the sand and soil samples was significantly increased by liming. Phosphorus adsorption from wastewater by soil columns decreased in the following order: Nacogdoches > Houston Black-sand > Patillo > coarse sand. Increased lime content of the sand and soil columns significantly increased the adsorption of P from wastewater. Lowering the wastewater loading rate from 75 to 50 or 25 cm/week reduced the P concentration in the leachate.
