Cone A (picture 1) is a basal section and cone B (picture 2) is a mature cordaitean cone containing 54 golden and 14 brown coprolites within its scales. Coprolites are relatively small (<50 microns) occuring in strings, possibly being produced by mites (picture 3 and 4).
DescriptionThese images were used in the research for a master's thesis from the Texas A&M University Dept. of Geology and Geophysics (Date of submission: May 2020).
Images were taken from slides on loan from the Harvard Paleobotanical Herbarium.
Cone A is a basal section and cone B is a Mature Cone.
Cone B contains 54 golden and 14 brown coprolites.
Mounted peels were made by William C. Darrah.
