dc.description.abstractBulbous bows are widely used in the naval hydrodynamics. It can reduce the resistance of ships, thus it can reduce the costs and exhaust emission. The numerical calculation of wave resistance for ships with bulbous bows are meaningful. Bulbs are designed for a specific speed are usually no longer effective at a different speed due to the requirement of "slow steaming". The numerical analysis of bulbous bows is very useful in engineering since it can save time and money in the design compared to other methods. In this study, the Neumann-Kelvin method, the Rankine source method and the wave cut analysis were implemented and applied to the numerical calculation of wavemaking resistance. The limits of application for different methods were also studied. Then these three methods were applied to the ships with bulbous bows. The calculated results were compared with the experimental data. According to the results of this study, the Neumann-Kelvin method can be applied to ship hull with small block coefficients; the Rankine source method can give reasonable results for all test ships; the wave cut analysis yields most accurate results among all three methods.en
