Throughout the history of film and animation two-dimensional paintings have been used as inspiration for films and other animated works of art. The goal of this thesis is to use the visual imagery of artist Freydoon Rassouli's (1943- ) paintings to inform the creation of a time-based animated work by making extensive use of videography, computer graphics and programming tools. Rassouli is a mystic artist and the main theme of his paintings is cosmic unity and mysticism. This research involves identifying visual characteristics inspired by Rassouli's paintings, finding and creating tools that best depict these visual characteristics in an animated form and creating a time-based work of art using the tools found and developed.en
