dc.description.abstractThe overall focus of this research work was to crographics. evaluate the potential dissolved phosphorus loading to Bayou Lake D'Arbonne from various soils within the watershed. The Lake D'Arbonne watershed is located in the north central region of Louisiana, just west of Monroe. Potential dissolved phosphorus loading curves for three levels of soil phosphorus concentration were generated for all soils within the watershed. A hydrologic/water quality model, EPIC, was used to generate these loading curves. The model's ability to predict the P loading to surface water bodies from pasturelands fertilized with poultry litter was evaluated. The model output was compared to actual field data collected from testing plots within fiends where historical litter applications have been made. A rainfall simulator was used to initiate runoff from the test plots where runoff water samples will be collected and analyzed. The model greatly underestimated the dissolved P values when compared with actual field data. The field measured values showed the relationship between soil P content and dissolved P in runoff to resemble a growth function, instead of a linear ion that is used in EPIC. The equation in EPIC was modified to reflect the equal relationship defined by the measured data, and the curves generated for each soil were used to suggest critical soil P concentrations for all soils within the basin.en_US
