dc.description.abstract | The use of Laser Induced Fluorescence to image ions in a gas has been proposed for a possible new type of subatomic particle detector.1 As a means to investigate this idea, an ion drift chamber has been developed that produces a collimated beam of ions of known density, which can be drifted under a variety of conditions including gas type and drift velocity. This work describes the design, construction and operation of the chamber and a study of ion diffusion. | en |
