dc.description.abstract | Though Brazos and surrounding counties have been treated in previous botanical works, this represents the first complete, up to date work dedicated solely to the region's dicot flora. A checklist and complete key to family, genus, and species are presented, along with descriptions of the taxa. The study reveals a tremendously diverse flora--over I,l 00 species from 489 genera in 104 families. The region, classified largely as Post Oak Savannah and Blackland Prairie, features microhabitats such as bog, outcrop, and river bottom, which support additional flodsfic associations. The area represents a four-way ecotone, with many species reaching their distributional limits here. The flora is a dynamic one, with some taxa increasing in abundance and some becoming less plentiful. This study confirms the presence of several species in the region, and pinpoints taxonomic groups needing further study. | en |
