Abstract
A new space vector PWM technique is presented in this thesis. Application of the proposed modulator in a) Alternating Current (AC) to Direct Current (DC) rectifier b) DC to AC inverter system is investigated. The new space vector technique is a generic algorithm for three-phase PWM converters such as AC to DC rectifiers,DC to AC inverters and AC to AC matrix converters. The simplicity of such algorithm, which leads to its real time control capability, is achieved by processing PWM time calculation in d-q domain where input, output and switch function of the converter form a simple relationship. AC to DC rectifier using the proposed modulator has demonstrated the capability of adopting to input voltage unbalance or distortion while providing high quality output voltage. DC to AC inverter system with proposed modulator achieves DC link voltage ripple immunity and maintain low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) specification across the terminals of a nonlinear load.
