Packaged Steam generators are the workhorses of process and cogeneration plants. An understanding of their design and performance aspects helps plant engineers, consultants and potential buyers evaluate various options from different vendors more carefully. First cost alone should not be the basis for their selection. This paper outlines some of the important design aspects of packaged boilers and how they affect boiler performance and operating costs. Suggestions are also made for proper evaluation of different designs so that the plant or end user acquires a boiler with low life cycle costs.en
