Low Cost Reliability Through Operator Involvement
Abstract
At most industrial facilities, the engineering, maintenance, and operation groups are under great pressure to increase reliability and also reduce costs. This paper discusses the role of operators in achieving low cost reliability. Although operators can have a dramatic impact on both reliability and costs, there has been very little focus on understanding or utilizing the potential of the people that are closest to the machinery, 24 hours a day. This paper discusses both the reliability that can be achieved if a culture of operator ownership developed and the conditions necessary to develop this ownership.
