dc.descriptionThe University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is composed of multiple buildings. All these buildings are physically joined together which makes it difficult to appropriately allocate utility costs between different cost centers. The Energy Systems Laboratory (ESL) has developed simulation models for the individual buildings and calibrated these energy models to measured data (for combined buildings) available from the ESL metering and the monthly utility billing data. A set of values based on the simulated performance which may be used to appropriately allocate utility costs among different cost centers on an annual basis or on a monthly basis were produced. The UTMDA Cancer Center (main complex) and buildings at the Knight Road Research facility were considered in the simulation which was done using an in-house simulation tool developed at the ESL. This simulation tool uses hourly/daily dry bulb, wet bulb temperatures; hourly/daily electricity, chilled water and heating consumption data. The simulation results were within 5% of the measured data for the combined set of buildings. Table 1 shows the distribution of electricity, and Table 2 shows the distribution of cooling and heating consumption on an annual basis for all the simulated buildings.en_US
