Techniques on Analysis of Photo Phase Shift Imaging
Abstract
In order to locate and destroy cancerous tumors, piglets with naturally occurring melanoma were injected with gold nanoparticles and exposed to laser irradiation. This causes necrosis of the tumor cell while sparing the surrounding, healthy tissues. Real-time MRI temperature mapping was evaluated using the magnitude and phase difference DICOM images. To reduce noise on the temperature maps, a mask was created using the magnitude images and eliminating pixel values greater than a set threshold. The mask was overlaid onto the phase difference images, and the proton resonance frequency was applied. A temperature analysis was recorded displaying the gradual heating then cooling of the tumor.
