Abstract
In this thesis work, the basic functionality of a ITU-T Standard V.90 modem is implemented in a TMS320C6201 Digital Signal Processor (DSP). The encoder, equalizer and decoder functions of a V.90 modem are programmed in the DSP using C language. The program has been written to analyze the performance of the modem functions using standard algorithms. The standard V.90 modulus encoder and an easy but effective constellation selection technique have been implemented. In the receiver side, two different equalization techniques are implemented and their performance in the DSP is compared. The cycle timing of the functions has been benchmarked. The pseudo real-time implementation for the equalizers shows significant functional aspects of the equalizer. The real-time observation technique showed that the RLS equalization algorithm performance was much better than the simple LMS approach.
