Abstract
The goal of this thesis is to analyze the solid solubility limit of dopants in Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconductors. We have studied the effect of Mn doping Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O. The electrical resistivity and critical temperature were measured for samples prepared with a range of dopant concentrations. We investigated the solubility of Mn in (Bi,Pb)-2212 to find its effect on phase formation, transition temperature, and electrical resistivity. This is a complimentary study of the previous research on Mn and Pb additions to explore their role in the phase kinetics and the electrical properties of 2212 phase. It differs because we doped Mn in the form of Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Mn-O (2212) crystals into the (Bi,Pb)-2212 polycrystalline bulk samples to increase the solid solubility of Mn in the 2212-matrix. The solubility limit has been observed as quite promising and it has a positive effect on electrical properties in terms of flux pinning.
