Abstract
With the introduction of the deregulation in the power industry, it becomes possible to wheel power across the transmission network. Hence, some issues involving the network's physical capability to transfer power and the allocation of the network's transmission resources for this purpose arise. Thus, the ability to quantify accurately the capabilities of the transmission network and also to allocate its usage to each generation company has become primordial. The first objective of this thesis is to review the power flow problem and the newly emerging concept of Available Transfer Capability (ATC) / Total Transfer Capability (TTC). Secondly, it aims at reviewing and implementing in the Matlab environment a technique for tracing the contributions of each generator to the individual transmission lines flows. The method's implementation is described in detail and numerical examples are included for its illustration.
