Abstract
Slowly but surely the direct application of the Second Law of Thermodynamics is being recognized, for its practical usefulness in engineering. This paper will describe the methods, and show the results of applications to whole economic sectors (industry, transportation, residential and commercial, power generation), to industries and processes (such as steel. paper. petroleum), to individual plants (e.g., electric power. coal gasification. total-energy, co-generation, heating and air-conditioning) and to various plant components (like boilers, engines, turbines,. ). Planning, design and operation - will be illustrated.
