Abstract
There are numerous opportunities for improved energy efficiency in small to medium sized paper and paperboard mills. The areas of application include power generation and distribution, motors and drives, stock handling, vacuum production and use and pumping. These opportunities frequently provide productivity, water efficiency, maintenance and infrastructure benefits in addition to the energy savings. Energy efficiency studies conducted under the auspices of utilities and governmental agencies have provided a vehicle for the analysis and implementation of such measures to this sector.
